AdventHealth for Children at the Walt Disney Pavilion is seeking a dynamic and visionary Pediatric Neurology Medical Director to lead the strategic expansion of our Pediatric Neurology program. This role represents a unique opportunity to create a comprehensive, regionally recognized pediatric neurology program, while maintaining a meaningful clinical practice.

Program Overview

The Pediatric Neuroscience Center at AdventHealth for Children currently includes a Level IV Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, Sleep Center, Multidisciplinary Neurofibromatosis Clinic, Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Clinic, Congenital Neurosurgery Clinic, and Craniofacial Clinic. These programs are supported by a strong team of pediatric neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists, and subspecialists. AdventHealth for Children has been named #1 in Florida for Neurology and Neurosurgery 3 years in a row, ranking nationally by Newsweek Magazine.

The hospital features:

  • A 20-bed dedicated neuroscience inpatient unit with an embedded 8-bed epilepsy monitoring unit, expanding to 24 beds on a newly renovated neuroscience floor
  • Advanced diagnostic and imaging capabilities including 3T MRI, PET, SPECT, and MEG
  • Robust referral base through AdventHealth’s statewide pediatric network

Role Summary

This newly requested Medical Directorship will provide clinical leadership, program development, quality oversight, and alignment with AdventHealth for Children growth priorities. The Medical Director will partner closely with hospital and physician leadership to expand pediatric neurology services, enhance patient access, and strengthen multidisciplinary care models.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative / Leadership (0.1 FTE):

  • Provide strategic and clinical leadership for the Pediatric Neurology program
  • Develop and grow general pediatric neurology services and create a comprehensive service
  • Expand our pediatric epilepsy program in partnership with the adult epilepsy program
  • Develop key subspecialty programs including (but not limited to):
    • Neuromuscular disorders
    • Movement disorders
    • Neonatal neurology
  • Recruit, mentor, and support pediatric neurology providers and advanced practice clinicians
  • Collaborate with pediatric neurosurgery, hospitalists, intensivists, and other pediatric subspecialties to ensure continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Standardize care pathways and promote evidence-based clinical practice
  • Oversee quality metrics, patient experience initiatives, referral growth, and regional program visibility
  • Advance multidisciplinary care models to improve outcomes and access for pediatric patients

Clinical (0.9 FTE):

  • Provide comprehensive pediatric neurology care in inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Maintain a clinical focus aligned with program needs and personal subspecialty interests
  • Participate in call coverage consistent with program structure

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatric Neurology (ABPN)
  • Eligible for or currently holding a Florida medical license
  • Demonstrated leadership experience or strong interest in clinical program development
  • Commitment to collaborative, patient- and family-centered care
  • Subspecialty expertise or interest aligned with program growth initiatives strongly preferred

Hospital Description

Our Walt Disney Pavilion at AdventHealth for Children is a full service, tertiary children’s hospital with over 200 dedicated pediatric beds, more than 30 peds ICU beds with a dedicated peds CICU, a 102 bed NICU, 17 bed pediatric emergency department and statewide pediatric network and transport system.  We started our comprehensive pediatric open heart program in 2012 and have a strong track record of positive outcomes.  We also have several key destination programs including our level IV Epilepsy program, the region’s only BMT and solid organ transplants including kidney and liver, and we increased Orlando area NICU beds to 150 total in 2017.  Our unparalleled network consists of 30 hospitals across the state with one children’s hospital at the center totals over 23,000 births and several extremely successful pediatric subspecialty programs including outreach clinics.  These 30 hospitals refer patients for tertiary and quaternary services to our main location near downtown Orlando.  Our newest program has brought pediatric liver transplant services to Central Florida. In 2019 through 2024, AdventHealth for Children is recognized by US News and World Report as the best Children’s Hospital for newborn care in Florida.  We are also recognized by The Leapfrog Group as a top Children’s Hospital for quality and safety, and we are a magnet designated hospital for nursing care.
